The Rockford Register Star essasys a thorough and welcome profile of Rep. Don Manzullo (R-IL), a longtime advocate for manufacturing and co-chairman of the bipartisan House Manufacturing Caucus, who gains influence with the Republican takeover of the House. Manzullo won re-election with 65 percent of the vote.
“I’m going to continue spending most of my time on manufacturing. We have a very close working relationship with the president and the secretary of commerce on enhancing exports. When the president said he wanted to double American exports, we were cheering,” he said.
Manzullo has worked on bills to enhance American manufacturing and exporting with Democrats Charlie Rangel of New York, Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and Henry Waxman of California. The reason is simple: Manufacturing tends to be done in Democratic districts; the Illinois 16th is a rare exception.
“In the majority, my role will probably be enhanced in helping to lead the House in pursuing export opportunities,” he said.
The Register Star had endorsed Manzullo for re-election, “Our View: Manufacturing focus makes Manzullo best choice in 16th.”
