On July 9, 1896, William Jennings Bryan delivered his Cross of Gold speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. It’s one of the great American speeches, no matter the policy espoused, and we mark its anniversary by linking to its text and an audio recording of Bryan recreating the speech later in life.
In honor of Bryan’s rhetorical skills, we offer the rock video for “Cross of Gold,” performed by Polish thrash metal band Quo Vadis.
It’s from their new album, “Infernal Chaos.”
Unfortunately, even in Polish, thrash/death/speed metal is boring.
