OWOSSO — To say George Hoddy lived a full life would be an understatement.

The 105-year-old Michigan businessman, who died Sunday at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, founded Universal Electric and was a staple in Owosso culture. He is said to be one of the greatest men to ever live in Shiawassee County.

“Mr. George,” as he was affectionately called by many, was an industrialist of international stature as early as World War II, and a business and civic leader in Owosso since 1936.

Hoddy turned 105 on March 7.
