With the prospect of a comprehensive global warming deal melting away, President Obama is forging ahead anyway with his planned trip to Copenhagen on Friday hoping to score a substantial agreement that can revive momentum for one of his top priorities that has stalled in Congress.

“We’re not going there just to get an agreement for the sake of something that’s called an agreement,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs told Fox News on Thursday. “We want something that works for both the international community but also something that works for the United States

Seattle P.I., “Airlines, industry group sue to block EU emissions rule“:

Three U.S. airlines and an industry group are suing to block implementation of Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme, according to a new report.

Continental, American, United and the Air Transport Association filed suit Dec. 16 against the U.K. Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Aviation Week reported.

“Virtually all non-EU states continue to oppose the unilateral application of the (scheme) to non-EU airlines,” Nancy Young, the association’s vice presdient for environmental affairs, told Aviation Week.
