The Swiss economics minister, Doris Leuthard, has been in Washington, D.C., this week talking about commercial and trade relationships, scheduled to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis, and White House economic adviser Christina Romer.
Radio Suisse Romande had a reporter accompanying Minister Leuthard, including at her stop here at the NAM to meet with John Engler. Judging from the interview with the NAM’s Engler, the current legal/tax problems with UBS are the only thing that really interest the media. The U.S. is suing UBS to pry the names of U.S. owners of secret bank accounts out of it.
John Engler assured the Swiss that, as far as U.S. manufacturers are concerned, the UBS controversy would not get in the way with strong trade relations.
