Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) is on the Senate floor right now reading a statement declaring his opposition to cloture to the Employee Free Choice Act. He objects to the loss of the secret ballot and the binding arbitration provisions.
Here’s an earlier report from Congress Daily, “Specter Said To Oppose Card Check Cloture.”
We’ll post the Senator’s statement when it becomes available.
Congratulations and thank you, Senator Specter.
UPDATE (2:31 p.m.) The Senator argues for a better approach of amending the National Labor Relations Act. He says his statement should put to rest any rumor-mill talk that he’s cutting some sort of deal for his political future.
