A Review of Races Important to State Legal Reform

Over at Point of Law we have several posts outlining the top state court and attorneys general races watched by legal reformers and the business community.

 The AP story about the Michigan race captures the significance quite well.

DETROIT (AP) — Democrat Diane Marie Hathaway’s upset win over Republican Chief Justice Clifford Taylor ended a conservative era on the state Supreme Court and sent shock waves through Michigan’s justice system.

The likely winners: workers, trial lawyers and environmentalists. The potential losers: businesses, insurers and maybe even doctors.

It was the first time an incumbent justice lost in 24 years, and the 2008 race wasn’t all that close.
