DETROIT, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ — Top business, government and academic leaders will meet June 15-17, 2009 at the inaugural National Summit convened by the Detroit Economic Club (DEC). This unprecedented gathering, announced today, will engage prominent leaders and participants in debate and dialogue on four issues of vital importance to America’s future in the global economy — Technology, Energy, Environment and Manufacturing.

William Clay Ford Jr., Executive Chairman, Ford Motor Company and Andrew Liveris, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Dow Chemical Company, will co-chair The National Summit, which will be held at Ford Field in Detroit. “The United States can no longer afford to take economic leadership for granted,” said Ford. “The National Summit offers a rare opportunity for leaders to come together to address the issues that impact our global competitiveness.”

Liveris joined in today’s announcement after delivering an address to the DEC calling for a new national industrial policy. “In order to restore vigor and strength to the American economy, we must come together, across industry and political lines, with new leadership and new thinking to keep the U.S. competitive.”
