Tax Incentives, the Right Way, the Not-Quite-So-Right…

NAM President John Engler sat down with an ascension of tax reporters for lunch today. Here’s the first story we see that comes from meeting. From Dow-Jones:

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A major Washington trade association head Monday said targeted tax increases congressional Democrats included in a business tax cut package are “about as painless as they could be.”

But John Engler, president of the National Association of Manufacturers, said he nonetheless opposes the tax increases, or offsets. He argued that widely supported tax incentives like the research tax credit should not need to be paired with offsets to reduce their impact on the deficit.
