From Congressional Record’s Daily Digest:
A motion was entered to close further debate onReid (for Boxer) Amendment No. 4825, and, in accordancewith the provisions of Rule XXII of theStanding Rules of the Senate, a vote on cloture willoccur on Friday, June 6, 2008. Page S5019
Word from the Hill is that a vote could happen as early as this evening, so the Senators can get out of town on Friday. The Las Vegas Sun had a good story explaining the Republican tactics in demanding the entire substitute Boxer amendment be read, reacting to the Majority Leader’s blocking of judicial nominations.
So, whimper, not a bang. Too bad about a shortened debate, though. The debate was highlighting the money and power grab at the heart of Lieberman-Warner, the legislation’s creation of a brobingnagian government to drive back the alleged threat of a possibility of anthropogenic global warming.
Really. Take a look at this public opinion survey conducted for American Solutions by The Polling Company. Key finding: By a margin of more than two-to-one, Americans prioritized energy security over climate change as the more pressing issue. (The survey memo is here.)
