From Dow Jones:

WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- A compromise deal aimed at resolving the long-running impasse over the law underpinning the government’s controversial warrantless surveillance program could be close to being finalized, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in his regular weekly briefing, Hoyer said that legislation renewing the wiretapping program could be on the floor of the House as soon as Friday.

Meanwhile, the ACLU is promoting what it calls a “strange bedfellows” coalition of like-minded opponents of effective surveillance. One member is a blog called “Down With Tyranny” that posts perfervidly, “Steny Hoyer Must Step Down As Majority Leader.”

Prensa Latina also weighs in, perhaps seeking status as an ex officio member.
