Good to see Senators recognize the value of quick action in order to stimulate now, when it matters most. From CQ Politics:
After losing a key test vote last night, Democrats will accept the latest Republican offer on an economic stimulus bill, paving the way for a final vote, Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus , D-Mont., said Thursday.
Democrats will shelve more ambitious provisions, including an extension of unemployment benefits and renewable energy tax breaks, along with added low-income home heating assistance.
The final bill will expand eligibility for rebate checks to include low-income senior citizens, disabled veterans and widows of veterans. It also will carry more restrictive language than the House-passed bill to prevent illegal immigrants from getting checks.
