Oleg and the 400 Disputatious Scientists

By January 10, 2008Global Warming

Perhaps the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee could have used its California “field briefing” today to explore the scientific rationale for letting California crack down on carbon dioxide. Oleg Sorokhtin, Merited Scientist of Russia and fellow of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences and staff researcher of the Oceanology Institute, could have shared a few interesting observations.

MOSCOW. (Oleg Sorokhtin for RIA Novosti) – Stock up on fur coats and felt boots! This is my paradoxical advice to the warm world.

Earth is now at the peak of one of its passing warm spells. It started in the 17th century when there was no industrial influence on the climate to speak of and no such thing as the hothouse effect. The current warming is evidently a natural process and utterly independent of hothouse gases.

The real reasons for climate changes are uneven solar radiation, terrestrial precession (that is, axis gyration), instability of oceanic currents, regular salinity fluctuations of the Arctic Ocean surface waters, etc. There is another, principal reason—solar activity and luminosity. The greater they are the warmer is our climate.

Well, an outlier, to be sure. The exception. The rogue Russian with a piece of the fur trade. All alone there on the fringe.

Over 400 prominent scientists from more than two dozen countries recently voiced significant objections to major aspects of the so-called “consensus” on man-made global warming. These scientists, many of whom are current and former participants in the UN IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), criticized the climate claims made by the UN IPCC and former Vice President Al Gore.

From the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, minority staff.

Four-hundred scientists who weren’t at today’s committee “field briefing.” That’s a lot of empty chairs.

MEASURED IR output from the Earth has INCREASED in the last 33 years. NOT DECREASED as “Hansen” would predict.

Please note, as of Jan 15th, there is attached to the blog an “independent” analysis of the same data from 2004 that shows the same trend.

Ignoring it is tantamount to “criminal” right now.
