The announcement of the new timezone was last week by the Venezuelan Minister of Science and Technology, Hector Navarro during a show on State television.
One of the reasons for the move, he said, was to save energy.
The issue of daylight saving had been discussed for several months, said Venezuela’s Acting Ambassador to Trinidad Christy Gonzalez.
She said: “The main reason was to benefit children because they get up extremely early before any sunlight, and that has an effect on their health”.
