Foundering near the South Shetlands

Former NAM employee and still world traveler, the Blogger’s Apprentice, e-mails to tell us that the Antarctic tour ship now sinking was the same vessel he traveled on a year ago, the MS Explorer.

Here’s a description of the ship posted at a travel agency’s webpage. It would be easy to poke fun at the assertion that the Explorer is “simply one of the best-suited ships for such an expedition,” but it’s most certainly true. Antarctic waters are simply risky and unforgiving; how fortunate that the passengers have been taken off safely already.
