Rock musicians Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne and Graham Nash are putting a new millennium twist on their 1970s anti-nuclear message, urging Congress not to approve federal loan guarantees for new nuclear power plants.
“Thirty years ago, we felt that this monster was dead,” Nash said. “It’s trying to raise its ugly head.”
Funny — I feel rather the same way about Bonnie Raitt, Jackson Browne, and Graham Nash.
Along with a concert against nuclear energy, a petition!
Initial petition signers include Ben Harper, Natalie Maines and Emily, Robison of the Dixie Chicks, Melissa Etheridge, Maroon 5, Keb’ Mo’, Patti Smith, Pearl Jam, Herbie Hancock and dozens of others. Already the Natural Eesources Defense Council, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, League of Conservation Voters, U.S. PIRG, Environmental Working Group, TrueMajority.org, Friends of the Earth, Physicians for Social Responsibility and Working Assets Wireless have joined the effort.
Usual suspects, of course.
And Bonnie, that’s an ELECTRIC slide guitar you’re playing. Pickups, amps …electricity.
