From The Willamette Week, Portland’s mainstream alt-weekly.
OK, it was no “Battle of Seattle.” Thousands of people didn’t take to the streets, nothing got smashed, and no one was sprayed with tear gas by police.
But yesterday’s protest in downtown Portland against President Bush’s visiting trade representative, Susan Schwab, did offer some interesting street theater, good ol’ rhyming chants, and baby-faced out-of-state anarchists.
The Oregonian covered Schwab’s speech in this story, as she makes the case for free-trade agreements with Latin American countries and pushes for more work on the Doha Round. Good to see Doha remain a priority.
