Hill-Terry CAFE Bill Picking Up Momentum

By August 6, 2007Energy

H.R. 2927, the bipartisan and achievable CAFE proposal known as Hill-Terry, is now the top CAFE legislation as judged by cosponsors, 162. It has overtaken the more extreme legislation introduced earlier by Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA), H.R. 1506, with 153 cosponsors.

As Dave McCurdy, president and CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, commented:

Hill/Terry has strong, bipartisan, labor, industry, business and consumer support and has established itself as the true position of the House of Representatives. With 61 Democrats and 101 Republicans, Hill/Terry has garnered the support of a broad coalition of lawmakers. H.R. 2927 is challenging, requiring fuel economy increases up to 35 mpg, but realistic and will result in real fuel economy savings that will help enhance our energy security.

And credit where credit due — Hill is Rep. Baron Hill (D-IN) and Terry is Rep. Lee Terry, R-NE.
