Calling All Ages: Responding to the Labor Shortage

Yesterday, we posted about the Nebraska Dream It! Do It! campaign to encourage young people to pursue manufacturing careers, making the training available to allow them to succeed in industry.

Today, from The Examiner, a story about embracing the willing employees at the other end of the age scale.

Older workers and retirees, previously overlooked by companies, are starting to get more attention from employers faced with labor shortages caused by the mass exodus of baby boomers from the work force. Job fairs targeting this demographic are being held in 43 cities across the country over the next two months, and an estimated 20,000 job seekers and 1,000 employers are expected to attend, according to event organizers.

The AARP and the Employment Guide are cooperating on the program, “Employ the Older Workers Job Fair Series.”
