‘Live Earth’ in Hamburg — Going Kaputt

By July 2, 2007Global Warming

From Die Welt, the Hamburg-based national daily.

Continued weak demand for the singing saviors of climate change
With the worldwide “Live Earth” concert on July 7, Hamburg wants to protect the climate and take its place next to other metropolitan venues such as London, Tokyo and Sydney. But only half of the tickets have been sold. Hamburg tourist officials are giving away the tickets in promotional packages.

Five days before the concert, just 22,000 of the show’s 45,000 available tickets have been sold, Die Welt reports. Frank Erich, spokesman for the Comtent Agency, sees little cause for alarm: “We’re assuming that the ticket sales will increase dramatically in the last few days before the concert,” he said. And there’s a surprise guest expected on stage!

Despite the big lineup, the modest ticket sales raise the question of whether the city of Hamburg will wind up with financial obligations. The sponsors alone, Hamburg Marketing, bear the risk if the concert falls into debt. The costs of the concert are supposed to be covered by the international sponsors as well as ticket sales. Tickets cost between 45 and 55 Euro. At this point, no one’s quite sure whether the revenues and the expenses will balance out. “That’s still completely unclear,” said Johannes Everke, spokesman for Hamburg Marketing GmBH. “Only after the show will we be able to determine if the calculations work out.”

And here’s the kicker.

To boost business even further, there are numerous promotional packages being offered for the event. Included among these promos is an idea dreamed up by Hamburg Tourism. They’re not selling the concert tickets, they’re giving them away as part of a package with the motto, “A Getaway — And Protect the Climate!” The complete “Live-Earth-Package” with a pricetag of 69 Euros includes an overnight stay in a hotel (with breakfast), Hamburg Card [a public transportation pass], as well as a free entrance ticket to the benefit concert.

If we follow the article correctly, tourism officials aren’t actually mentioning the fact that the promotional package can be used at other times, and really for 69 Euros, you could just skip the 55 Euro “Live Earth” concert and still be ahead of the game.

Oh, and the environmentalists in the city legislature are unhappy.

The opposition is criticizing the city Senate for lack of professionalism and false advertising. “The Senate isn’t Karsten Jahnke [a big concert promoter — think Bill Graham] and neither is it a believable sponsor for a climate concert, what with its construction of a big coal-fired power plant,” said Farid Mueller, spokesman for the GAL [the Greens and the “alternative” lefties]. “Now everyone is Hamburg is paying for their foolishness.”

Time to protest “Live Earth!”

Yeah, nothing like protecting the environment- by jetting all these celebs to all points of the globe- burning fuel. Then the electricity, then the fuel used by folks to get there- and the waste generated. Typical Mercedes Marxists.

    The Earth Warming Challenge

We’re told daily, no, hourly that the end is near and we must act now. The world is going to burn up, blow away, flood, starve, or all of those things and worse if we don’t respond immediately.

We’re told this by politicians, actors, pundits, the media and others. And where are they when they tell us? They’re someplace at a meeting or rally. How did they get there? Mostly by private jet or SUV or limousine.

Of one thing they’re certain, that we don’t have much time left to reduce our wasteful energy use! It’s crucial that we go all out in this effort because time is very short.

So of course we should start where the greatest opportunity for energy saving exists and where the most unnecessary uses of energy are obvious.

Following is a list of things we should enforce, right now, to reduce energy use and eliminate unnecessary CO2 emissions–while we still have a chance:

    1. Close Hollywood. We can rerun existing films, sitcoms, etc for years.
    2. Stop all travel done for political purposes. They can use TV and the US Mail.
    3. Every homeowner with a primary residence over 5,000 sq. ft. will take in one other family for each 1,200 sq. ft. over 5,000.
    4. Each married couple will be permitted a maximum of two houses. Any excess houses will be donated for use by homeless people with at least 2 homeless persons for each 1,200 sq. ft. in the house.
    5. News and weather reporters may not travel over 100 miles to report events. Local reporters will be used for distances beyond that allowed maximum.
    6. Politicians and their staff, as well as all government employees, will accomplish all air travel by scheduled commercial aircraft and no family member or entourage may accompany them. The President and his Cabinet officers are exceptions.
    7. Each residence with more than 3 vehicles less than four years old will give the excess vehicles to charity.
    8. Ground all private jet aircraft and all other private aircraft with a published cruise speed in excess of 250 kts.

All of these regulations will be lifted when the politicians, actors, pundits, the media and others report that the crisis has passed.

There can be no doubt that these suggestions will be enthusiastically embraced even by people whose careers and conveniences may be effected. So many of them have been tireless in their warnings. This is important. Even today an ex-president was quoted as saying the near future holds many catastrophes if we don’t respond to this crisis immediately.

The Surprise guest is going to be PARIS HILTON. From the looks of that line up she will probably be the smartest one there. WHAT A BUNCH OF LOSERS.

  • Randell Young says:

Note: The equation above is 16 over 10 to the sixth power. Unfortunately, in this format, the superscript gets morphed into 106. The astronomers, physicists, mathematicians and engineers have already figured that out having scanned down to see the 16 parts per million reference. Sorry for confusing everyone else but, T-shirt wise, 16 over 10 to the sixth written out as a five digit equation is really the most visually elegant way to express the fact that man-made carbon dioxide has about as much influence over the climate as spitting into the wind, probably less actually as water vapor is the most significant greenhouse gas. Don’t tell the Democrats, though. Next, they will want to tax the rain.

  • Fal says:

“The Al Gore theory of global warming is a scam to promote nuclear power”

If only that were the case. But instead the eco-zealots refuse to build nuclear power plants even though they’re by far the cleanest and most efficient way of creating power.

  • Kevin says:

Global warming is junk science and Al Gore is a gommer. Use the good common sense God gave you. Don’t be a sheeple, so easily led to slaughter.

  • DJH says:

    Hey Bill, a slight correction on your last sentence;
“But I spent $500 every year on carbon credits from a company I stand to make millions from if they’re able to trick the suckers… uhhh, I mean Americans into buying ‘my credits’, to make sure I lead a carbon-neutral lifestyle!!!”

  • Rolando says:

al-Gore is a socialist swine!! Und Fraud Fur ein!

    Fight Leftist Tyranny!

    Global Warming is 100% BullshIT!

    Idiot leftist libtards!

  • DJH says:

What’s funny is the venues/locales where these concerts do sellout will be touted as a huge success for climate awareness when in fact it will just be people who wanted to see the bands/acts and not so much in support of bore… I mean Gore’s silly twisted opinion on all of his already debunked ‘science’. This is just another one of his attempts at legitimacy, another FAILED attempt at legitimacy.

  • Diane says:

Thank you for that intelligent response.

  • Mike says:

You know, maybe the sort of people who would be interested in an “Live Earth” concert realize full-well that these concerts do absolutely nothing for the cause of conservation: let’s see, um, jet setting self-absorbed pop stars, massive energy use (both at the concert and for those patrons getting to and from the concert), and the mountains of garbage invariably produced… A true environmentally minded person would just stay at home and work on their gardens and maybe plant a tree instead. Glad to hear this little money-making fiasco is failing. Its not because people DON’T care about the environment, its just that they know better than to endorse cheap non-enviromentally friendly festivals (save the carbon offset b.s. for other slack-jawed gore-minions).

  • TomInDayton says:

The whole “Carbon Offsets”, “Carbon Credits”, “Carbon Neutral” thing is such a scam. Follow the money… then ask, “Who benefits monetarily from these companies who sell carbon offsets”.

Lo and behold! Algore is a big-time major investor!

First he tells us that our, not his (don’t get me started!), lifestyle is ruining the world. Then he tells us about how we can buy “carbon offsets” so we don’t need to feel so bad about our terrible lifestyle. Then he pockets all the dividends from his investment.

Armond Hammer is smiling in his grave!

  • Emoney says:

Brian. That whole over hyping of the terrorist thing, Yeah. So that whole thing in Glasgow and London was just hype. GW is hyping it up to take the attention off of him for commuting Scooter, or some BS like that? Unreal.

It’s great transportation to and from the airport when I hop onto my private jet! But I spent $500 every year on carbon credits to make sure I lead a carbon-neutral lifestyle!!!

  • Dave says:

First, it was “global warming”. Then, that changed to “climate change”, I reckon to cover their @sses since some places were actually cooling instead of heating up. And today, I heard on the radio that it’s called “climate crisis”. Go figure…

  • Brian says:

I believe that GW is a problem, but not anything to the magnitude that is being portrayed. Everything is hyped- even terrorism. The War of Terror was hype too.

Aren’t there more distressing things in the world to have concerts about- genocide, human trafficking, children used as soldiers, etc..seems more real..

  • David says:

If the problem was real, they wouldn’t charge
money to bring you the message.
If they charge money, they want to make money
and bank money and buy things with money.
If money is involved then it’s about money.

  • Quentin Beck says:

Believe it or not, in my country Gore was once a respected politian. It’s seems pointless to have a concert for the environment that would leave a whole bunch of trash all around.

  • Ron says:

Nice to see people, real people, questioning the media and media stars who are such hypocrites when it comes to this crap. and yes, al-Gore is the poster child for it all! I’m surprised they don’t limit bathroom goe-ers to a single sheet or two of toilet paper.

  • JP says:

Hey, if the Red Hot Chili Peppers are down with global warming, then so am I. Are Prince Harry and Prince William going to be at this concert too?

  • John says:

If a show sucks, it sucks. Sorry, Hamburg – you got screwed with a bad line up. Global warming? Global cooling? Who cares? We do not effect it. The planet has been warming and cooling for billions of years. I will not be scared by the rantings of religious fanatics who worship the earth. I will not bow before the altar of “gaia”. I will not let people take away my freedoms because of the junk science of those arrogant enough to claim they know the future based on nothing but their feelings.

  • Rolando says:

Live Earth? Wouldn’t waste my time….. would rather have a cold one with a cee-gar and play some poker. Spare me the global warming bilge – just follow the money, especially when it comes to Al Gore’s true interest in separating you from your money!

  • chicagoray says:

They’d have to pay me to go to one of these pollution fests. What a way to celebrate global warming, by creating more pollution!!!

and I guess they’ll buy carbon credits with all the profits to equal out the carbon footprint the size of a planet sized bigfoot.. what a joke that warming alert crowd is/.

And are they all sharing toilet paper squares too to placate Sheryl Crowe or just not taking any s***s for a couple days? I sure hope so or she’ll be stomping mad!!!

Finally, Will they be lighting their joints and bongs by rubbing sticks together too?

Classic. Did anyone see the show about origins of the universe where the professors were talking about cosmic expansion? This is great. According to there model, the universe is expanding at an ever increasing rate. Oh no! They postulate that one day the earth will just blow up. Kinda like the Death Star in Star Wars. They showed this computer graphic where the Earth’s crust goes flying off and then this big ball of magma just vaporizes. It was hilarious. Libs love to control the political discourse with new and improvable paradigms of our destruction.

  • james says:

I think 106 is meant as 10 to the 6th power, or 1,000,000

  • Charles Cosimano says:

Oh, pity the poor Eurotrash! They can’t even get up enough hot air to get people to listen Al Gore’s hot air.

I’ll believe in global warming when I can sit in my back yard in January in Wisconsin without a coat on.

And then I will celebrate it.

  • Jon says:

David, you are an idiot. I agree that human caused global warming is a lie. All of the other government crap you said only ocurred one time in US History. That was at the hands of a liberal democrat president by the name of Roosevelt. He suspended Habeus Corpus (on US citizens, not POW’s as Bush has done) He put people in concentration camps based soley on their race. He trampelled all over the Constitution and yet you idot liberals worhip him. Roosevelt put us at war wtih Germany, they never attacked us. Roosevelt seized citizens properties to turn into secret military bases and put a nuclear research center under a college. He created the CIA and put the FBI to work spying on Americans. But you liberals can’t admit to that, it would be too honost and full of facts. Liberals don’t work that way.

DAVID SAID – “Al Gore and environmentalism are distractions. As the mass media creates climate illusions, Big Brother clamps down by opening our mail, suspending habeas corpus, stealing private lands, banning books like “America Deceived” from Amazon, rigging elections, conducting warrantless wiretaps and starting wars based on blatant lies. Soon, the sinking of an Aircraft Carrier(by Mossad) will occur and the US will ‘retaliate’ against Iran. Which AIPAC-lobbying country benefits from that? How much will the environment matter after a Nuke attack on Iran? Not much. Stop Iraq, Prevent Iran then work on the environment.”

    until then? notta chance.

  • Randell Young says:

What does the equation 16/106 have to do with global warming?

With all due respect, if you don’t know the answer to that question, you don’t know the first thing (literally) about the man-made CO2 emissions theory of global warming and, accordingly, you couldn’t possibly have an informed opinion on the subject.

If you do know the answer, then you also know that it’s the only thing you really need to know about the great global warming scam.

Someone should print up a T-shirt with 16/106 on the front and back and pass them out at eco-sheep rallies. Why? Once people know that number, they may continue to parrot from the Al Gore script but their hearts are no longer in it. Why? Because 16 parts per million is the total amount of man-made CO2 in the atmosphere.

What?!?!? That’s all?!?!? Sixteen parts per million?!?!?

Once you get that number into the discussion, the “consensus of leading scientist say” argument is pretty much done, as well the credibility of the so-called academic community.

Now we could point out that the total amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is only 0.054 percent (540 parts per million) of which over 97 percent is attributable to natural sources.

We could comment on the fact that the ice core sample data presented by Al Gore in his propaganda piece actually show that CO2 content increased subsequent to (and not as a precursor of) the noted increases in temperature. Post hoc ergo propter hoc issues notwithstanding, you could correctly observe that Dr. Gore has his theoretical cause confused with his hypothetical effect.

We could bring up the fact that, in direct contraction of Dr. Gore’s claim that global warming is causing an expansion of Africa’s deserts, New Scientist is reporting that “Africa’s deserts are in spectacular retreat… making farming viable in what were some of the most arid parts of Africa”.

We could cite the fact that, again, in direct contradiction of Dr. Gore’s claim that Greenland is in rapid meltdown, the Journal of Glaciology reports that “the Greenland ice sheet is thinning at the margins and growing inland with a small overall mass gain” and that the Danish Meteorological Institute now reports that the past two decades were the coldest for Greenland since the 1910s.

We could assert that, again, in direct contradiction of Dr. Gore’s claim that the Antarctic ice sheet is melting because of global warming, satellite measurements of the Antarctic ice sheet actually show significant growth between 1992 and 2003.

We could observe that, again, in direct contradiction to Dr. Gore’s claim that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking due to global warming, the American Meteorological Society’s Journal of Climate is now reporting that, “Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame.”

We could mention the fact that changes in solar activity not only correlate perfectly with observed climate changes on Earth but on the other planets of our solar system as well. Yes, Mars is showing signs of warming and neither John Travolta nor Virgin Atlantic has yet to land a single jet there.

We could reference the fact that global temperatures actually declined during the first four decades of the post-World War II industrial expansion and that three-fourths of the global warming measured in this century occurred during the relatively low carbon emissions era of 1900 to 1940.

We could get into the most salient fact that surface temperature readings have increased faster than their correspondent tropospheric readings which is in direct contradiction to the man-made carbon emissions theory of global warming. For any other theory of the physical universe, this alone would be enough for a consensus of scientists to say, “Hey, wait a minute. This hypothesis does not fit the observable facts. We need a new theory.” But with global warming, the sad fact is that there are just too many grant dollars at stake for the consensus to rediscover their integrity… and so the charade continues.

    But dig this.

We could even note that the accepted global average temperature statistics used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change show no increase in surface temperatures since 1998. What!? By the IPCC’s own definition global warming stopped in 1998?!

Yes, we could confront the global warming scammers with all of these facts and more but most (if not all) of these arguments are simply too complex for the average government school indoctrinated eco-zealot to grasp.

So just lay up that 16 parts per million number and let it sink in.

Need something to help you put 16 parts per million into some sort of context?

The average chicken dinner contains between 33 and 43 parts per million of arsenic. That’s more than twice as much poison in your KFC as man-made CO2 in the atmosphere.

The Al Gore theory of global warming is a scam to promote nuclear power, expand the scope of government, increase academic welfare, tax every bit of energy productive people use, derail third world development and create unearned fortunes via a government-mandated carbon credits market… all based on the bizarre notion that reducing man-made CO2 content from 16 parts per million down to say 12 parts per million is going to counteract the power of the sun.

Yes, P.T., there really is a sucker born every minute.
