Norman Borlaug, the Iowa farm boy turned crop scientist and father of the Green Revolution, will be honored today on Capitol Hill with the Congressional Gold Medal, the nation’s highest civilian award. The Des Moines Register comments:
The Congressional Gold Medal is not just a fitting tribute to a remarkable American, but an opportunity for the nation to signal that the work of this remarkable American is an enormous source of national pride. The greatest tribute to Borlaug, however, would be that his work continue for generations to come.
Borlaug will be one of only five people to receive the Congressional Gold Medal, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Nobel Peace Prize.
