Allen Iverson, Tort Reformer

By July 3, 2007Briefly Legal

NBA star guard, Allen Iverson, on being sued over a D.C. nightclub brawl:

Nowadays, people don’t want justice served by the justice system. Instead, justice is being served by getting millions of dollars.

A $20 million claim by two clubbers who claimed they were injured by Iverson’s bodyguards. More Iverson, who says he wasn’t anywhere near the alleged beat-down:

“I’m not here for someone who got assaulted,” Iverson testified, saying there was no evidence any crimes were committed. “I’m on trial for working my tail off for my wife and my family and for getting financially stable.” The plaintiffs “want to become rich overnight.”

Welcome to the world that business owners face every day, Mr. Iverson. It stinks. And it’s economically inefficient, too.

IN SOCIETY WE AS INDIVIDUALS HAVE TO STEP UP AND FACE THE DAILY EVENTS THAT GO ON IN OUR LIVES. I TRULY THINK THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO MUCH TO DO TO BE DREAMMING UP FALSE STATEMENTS ABOUT MR. IVERSON I BELIEVE HE IS TOTALLY 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS GOON’S. IN THESE EVENTS A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GETTING THEIR HEADS KNOCKED OFF, THIS IS NO LAUGHING MATTER.WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEBODY GETTING KILLED OR SEVERLY INJURED. IF EVERYBODY HAS THE SAME THING TO SAY ABOUT YOU EVERYBODY’S NOT LYING ON YOU, THIS IS WHO YOU ARE.
