One observation, though, from the Budget Inn Express Bismarck, formerly the Fleck House: Those expecting to bask by the outdoor pool — a small one — will be disappointed. Owners filled it in last year because the annual insurance bill was an astonishing $50,000. Suppose the possibility of a lawsuit by those injured in pursuit of an illicit midnight swim was just too great, and a $50,000 charge makes no economic sense for a budget motel in downtown Bismarck.
On the plus side, there’s now a nice grassy area for families to barbecue. So thanks, trial lawyers!
