Dreaming It and Doing It in S.E. Indiana

Exciting day in Columbus, Indiana, today as supporters of manufacturing gather for the launch of Dream It! Do It! in the 10-county region of southeastern Indiana. As the initiative’s official website states,

Indiana’s Region 9 Workforce Board, in partnership with educators, businesses, government, and economic development officials throughout a 10-county area have launched Dream It. Do It.—the first such initiative in Indiana and the fifth in the United States.

The campaign is working closely with community leaders who understand the importance of manufacturing and the role it will play in the future of the Southeast Indiana region and our nation.

Our partners are uniting to support one of the country’s most essential industries, boost their local economy, and more importantly, help students find great, high-paying careers of which they can be proud.

There’s incredible leadership being shown thoughout Region 9 from elected officials, educators, local economic developers and manufacturers, all devoted to creating an educational and training environment that meets the needs of students while emphasizing the rewarding careers available in manufacturing.

The kick-off ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Columbus Learning Center, itself a model of education and workforce cooperation. Governor Mitch Daniels, fresh off a successful European business development mission, will be on hand — and so will a score of high school students for whom “Dream It! Do It!” is intended.

We’re in beautiful Columbus — an architectural jewel, by the way — and will have a full report on the kick-off in due course. If the planning and enthusiasm we’ve already witnessed are any indication, this should be great.
