Doha Meetings — The Presidents of FIESP, Paulo Skaf, and the NAM of the United States, John Engler, will be in Brasilia to discuss the impediments toward progress in negotiating the Doha Round of the WTO. They will have meeting with the vice-president of the Republic, Jose Alencar, at 9 a.m.; with the Minister of the Development, Industry and Foreign Commerce, Miguel Jorge, and 10 a.m.; and with the speakers of the House, Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP), at 11 a.m.; and of the Senate, Renan Calheiros (PMDB-AL), at 11:30.
Quite a schedule.
FIESP is the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paolo. Here’s FIESP’s news release about the week’s joint activities with the NAM delegation of manufacturers. In Portuguese, though.
UPDATE (Noon): More from the Brazilian newspapers, “FIESP says everyone interested in concluding the Doha Round.” In Portuguese, a positive statement from FIESP’s leadership about achieving balance and exploring mutual areas of interest.
UPDATE (1:30 p.m.) News release from the President of the Brazilian Senate, with photo. Quite a bit of discussion about tax policy.
