Here’s another one you likely won’t see in the mainstream media today. The IPCC is the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. This group is like the High Command to all the global warming believers, and is responsible in part for some of the current hysteria.
Well, not so fast, if the newest report due out from the IPCC is to be believed. According to this report in the (UK) Telegraph, the IPCC is about to say “that mankind has had less effect on global warming than previously supposed.” Wait, it gets better. The IPCC, “Has lowered predictions of how much sea levels will rise in comparison with its last report in 2001.” (In fact, another UN report actually blames cows more than humans for being a bigger threat to the environment.)
OK, so this is all good news, right? But this is what’s annoying. Had their report been more dire than the last, you know all the mainstream media (MSM), the global warming club, would push it on to their front pages. The nightly news shows would lead with it and Miles O’Brien would surely wake up long enough to cover it. But as we write this (on Sunday night) we can almost bet there will be nary a peep about this in the MSM on Monday.
The WaPo had an editorial on Sunday, by the way, lamenting Sen. Inhofe’s courageous hearing last week and once again declaring the debate about global warming closed. This is such a pernicious way to stifle earnest, honest, legitimate scientific debate. As these reports come in and as the global warming worm begins to turn a bit, with the advent of more and more reports like this, the Gore-ists are frantic to cut off debate.
For our part, we don’t fear the debate, and in fact say, “Bring it on.” If you look here and here, you’ll see there are plenty of scientists who disagree with the prevailing political theory. There’s just simply no consensus, no matter how hard the Gore-ists scream, “Pay no attention to the man behind that curtain!”
Mark us down as standing with science, standing with the skeptics as it were. The debate isn’t over — in fact, far from it. From the looks of things, and now bolstered by this new IPCC report, it may be that it’s only just begun.
