If you’re not reading the excellent series by the above title in the Wall Street Journal by Tim Aeppel, you should be. We can’t link to it since it’s subscriber only, but it’s on the front page of the Marketplace (or “B”) section all week. yesterday they profiled NAM member company Bobcat (a division of Ingersoll-Rand), the largest exporter in North Dakota, and today the subject is Viking, in Mississippi. It really is a great series. As they say at the outset, “Rumors of the death of US manufacturing have been greatly exaggerated.” Of course we know that, but it’s good to get the word out.
UPDATE: (By Carter Wood): The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has reprinted yesterday’s Journal story about Ingersoll-Rand (Bobcat), which you can read here. Quite a North Dakota day at Shopfloor.org.
