Irony Watch: Al Gore Laments Dearth of Fact-Based Decision-Making

There was a little blurb in yesterday’s WaPo speculating on Al Gore’s plans for the White House in ’08. It appears that media maven Gore is following up his movie with a book to be released in May entitled, “The Assault on Reason.” Says the WaPo:

“As described by editor Scott Moyers, the book is a meditation on how ‘the public arena has grown more hostile to reason,’ and how solving problems such as global warming is impeded by a political culture with a pervasive ‘unwillingness to let facts drive decisions.”

Wow. Let’s just sit here a moment and let the irony linger in the air, shall we?

From our post of yesterday, through more than we can mention — from some inconvenient facts on global warming to “Questions for Al Gore“, this is a debate we are happy to have. But Al and his amen chorus in the media only beat one side of this big bass drum. If Al is really serious about letting facts drive decisions, he can begin by acknowledging — honestly — that global warming is a theory about which there is no consensus. Maybe from there we can have a reasoned discussion.

In other words, we’re willing to let the facts drive the decisions. Is he?

  • Pat, I think you’re one of the last people on the planet that doesn’t “believe in” global warming. I’d ignore you but you do manufacturers and the public a great disservice by continuing to deny the truth. The real questions are: Can we do anything about Global Warming?, what will its effects be?, and is it really a big deal or not?

    Ironically, while some manufacturers stick their head in the sand, those responding to environmental matters (including global warming) will come out ahead by being more efficient, more prepared for regulation, and more honest in the eyes of the public.
