If gas prices ever begin to head south again, we’ll have Rep. John Peterson (R-PA) to thank. While others point fingers and propose non-solutions, he has been dogged in his determination to open US supplies of energy in the hopes of making energy more affordable for us all.
You’ll remember the back and forth last week in the Fort Myers paper. They first endorsed the Peterson bill that would open the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) to exploration, a courageous move for a Florida paper — and then Sen. Nelson wrote, citing a 37 year-old leak — the last one — and fearing more leaks of natural gas. Whatever.
Well, Rep. Peterson has responded to Sen. Nelson. In his reply, he notes that Canada now drills for natural gas in Lake Erie and sells it to us! He also ticks off the list of countries currently exploring off of Cuba. You’ll note that the US is conspicuously absent from that list.
In any event, here’s a link to Rep. Peterson’s latest excellent salvo entitled, “Time for New Thinking on Natural Gas Drilling.” Guess so.
