Sen. Santorum on Health Care

Health Savings Accounts (HSA’s): These are necessary if we’re going to stem the increase in costs. A third of people who have signed up for HSA’s were uninsured prior to signing up for them. We will never get a handle on health care cots as long as the consumer is insulated from the cost and purchasing component. We’ve improved th situation in the private health market. The HELP Committee just passed a Small Business Health Plans bill. This is vitally important step for small businesses. Another area is liability reform. The cost of liability is not just the cost of the settlements. The insidious cost is the prices of defensive medicine. We will off a different proposal this ear, hope the other side of the aisle will join us. Finally, tax credits for the uninsured, for people who don’t have employer-provided health care.

Long term care is a huge problem facing the baby boom generation. Only 11% of seniors have long-term care insurance.
