Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

By March 17, 2006General

Just wanted to give a shout-out to all our Irish brothers and sisters on this great day. Luckily all us Irish-Catholics got a dispensation from the Pope himself to eat meat this Friday during Lent without earning a one-way ticket to H-E-Double Hockey Sticks. How great is that? We’re wondering just how far this dispensation goes, but likely won’t tempt fate or the Pope, for that matter. Bring on the corned beef. This is theology, after all.

In celebration for all members of the Irish diaspora, here’s a link to a History Channel site full of information on St. Patrick’s Day — the man and the traditions. Here’s a link to a slightly less reverent page of non-authentic Irish toasts, and here’s a link to the Leprechaun Hall of Shame.

Enjoy the day — responsibly, of course.

Thanks for clarifying – I had actually heard that the Pope had said that, and during my Google search to see if it was true your post was the only reference to him and not to individual bishops.

I was being a little facetious. It came out from the Bishops, I believe. If you Google it, you will find it, no doubt.

    Thanks for writing,

Could you please point us to the source of your information about the Pope’s declaration?

Hi Paddy! Happy Saint Paddy’s Day to you too. I love the Leprechauns – didn’t realize that they have fallen on hard times. See Saint Patrick’s benediction: http://www.neddy.wordpress.com
