8:00 — 9:00: Registration, breakfast and networking
Join the over 75 attendees for a light breakfast and networking session before the first session begins. Breakfast will be held in the Manufacturers Room at the NAM.
9:00 — 10:00: Blogging 101 (led by Mike Krempasky)
Learn the basics of a blog — including how to build a blog, blogging history, how to make your own blog and shocking statistics about blogging in 2006!
Mike Krempasky is the co-founder of RedState.org, a Republican community blog and The Online Coalition (http://www.onlinecoalition.com), a bipartisan association of bloggers and online professionals formed earlier this year to support freedom of speech and political participation online. He currently serves as Vice President of Interactive at Edelman.
10:00 — 11:00: What You Don’t Know CAN Hurt You and Your Reputation (led by Morra Aarons and Mike Krempasky)
This session is a crash course on building your reputations online. Companies and associations alike have found themselves in crisis communication mode solely because of communication on blogs. We will also be covering the basics of online monitoring and research.
Morra Aarons serves as Vice President for Interactive at Edelman, where she manages online communications, marketing and advocacy. During the 2004 Presidential Election, Morra was the director of Internet marketing for the Democratic National Committee, where she oversaw online fundraising, online organizing and marketing. Previously, she managed iVillage.com’s award-winning public affairs program in New York and was also VP/head of marketing for eBookers.com, Europe’s #1 online travel site.
11:00 — 12:00: Building Your Own Blog and How-To Session (led by Pat Cleary, Eric McErlain and Kevin Holland)
Pat Cleary is Senior Vice President for Communications and Blogger-in-Chief at the National Association of Manufacturers (http://blog.nam.org). Eric McErlain is a speech writer and Blogger at the Nuclear Energy Institute (http://neinuclearnotes.blogspot.com). Kevin Holland is the vice president for communications, membership and corporate development with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America and started one of the first trade association blogs. This panel will discuss getting management buy-in on the concept of blogging and driving traffic to your blog.
12:00 — 1:00: Lunch discussion with Bill Beutler from the Hotline about media and blogs
Bill Beutler is the editor of National Journal’s “Blogometer.” The Blogometer is a daily report taking the temperature of the political blogosphere. Bill will provide remarks and a discussion about what the main stream media think of blogs and how to measure their impact.
