The Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.: On This Day….

By January 16, 2006General

Today is the day set aside for remembering the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., his heroic struggles and the enormous impact he had on this Nation — honored with a federal holiday. Please take a moment today to read his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28, 1963. If you have kids — of any age — do sit down and take the few minutes to read it all aloud to them. While the “I Have a Dream” passage is now famous — and rightfully so — the speech in its entirety is wonderful and stirring, and mindful of the civil rights struggles in this country — almost unthinkable to today’s kids, but not so very long ago. The struggle for equality is a constant one and we do well to honor Dr. King’s memory today by rededicating ourselves to his cause.

Here’s the link to his famous speech that day in 1963 and here’s a link to a number of his other great speeches. Please take the time to read and reflect on this great man and his remarkable life.
