The NAM Judicial Review Committee Begins Its Work

Judicial NominationsYesterday the NAM’s Judicial Review Committee (JRC) began the serious work of considering a possible NAM endorsement of John Roberts’ nomination to the United States Supreme Court. As we’ve described before, the JRC is a group of about ten lawyers from NAM member companies large and small. It was clear from the call that a number of JRC members know Judge Roberts well, having worked with him in a number of capacities over the years, and hold in him in very high regard. In short order, the group will develop some guidelines and will review Roberts’ record according to those guidelines. As NAM President John Engler has stated repeatedly, we are looking for someone who will interpret – not make – the law from the bench. The JRC will flesh this out a bit and then will be evaluating Judge Roberts accordingly. This is a conscientious and high-level group and its clear from today’s call that they take their duties seriously. Stay tuned for more news on this front, but this group intends to do its work with all due speed and deliberation.
